A Standardised Methodology to Calculate
Vehicle Emissions with CO2 (g/km) Values

Turning Auto-Loan Data into Actionable Climate Insights

European DataWarehouse (EDW) has released a new methodology report that defines a consistent way to calculate vehicle emissions and enrich auto-loan and leasing credit data with standardised CO₂ values.

Developed as part of the Green Auto Securitisation Project in collaboration with the Leibniz Institute SAFE, this paper presents:

  • Challenges and solutions for linking credit and vehicle-emission data
  • Regulatory insights from EU and German ESG frameworks
  • Policy recommendations to support greener financial products in the automotive sector

Drawing on EDW’s unique database of European Auto & Leasing ABS transactions, the study demonstrates how accurate CO₂ metrics can improve credit risk models, enhance sustainable finance, and help market participants meet ESG disclosure requirements.
